07 Aug Opal Agafia & The Sweet Nothings Bring Ozark Mountain Soul and Roots Sound to CO this August
It’s August. It’s hot. You’ve been on a festival bender for months. If you hear one more wompy, over-produced song, you’re done for.
Sounds like you need a pick-me-up, and one that comes in the form of music with some depth, heart, soul, and history.
Opal Agafia & The Sweet Nothings is making their way to Colorado to help you take the edge off and remind you what real music sounds like with some spine-tingling, hits-you-square-in-the-gut jams. This self-proclaimed “mountain soul and roots n’ roll” group is bringing their eclectic, heart-filling sound to Boulder and Denver for a debut three-night run, traveling all the way from the hills of Arkansas.
The (sometimes five) six-piece band is led by lead vocalist and songwriter, Opal Agafia, whose soulful voice is the perfect accompaniment to the rest of the band’s instruments: fiddle, guitar, telecaster guitar, dobro, mandolin, drums, and electric bass. Together, the band has played venues and festivals around the NW Arkansas region and beyond, including Highberry Music Festival, Hillberry Music Festival, Ozark Mountain Music Festival, ParkStomp Music Festival, Solar FLUX, and more.
Of course, our words can’t do the music justice or evoke the same emotions as hearing it for yourself:

It is with an extraordinary amount of soul and skill that the band can play music that both is reflective of the traditional sounds and values of the Ozark Highlands, as well as incorporate their own viewpoints and concerns about the region as it stands today. Their music is both progressive and forward-thinking, while deeply rooted in who they are and where they have come from.
Essentially, if you’re a fan of soul, roots, gospel, blues, jazz, country, swing, or traditional mountain music, you’re in for quite a treat and sure to question your former notions about how each of these genres is “supposed” to sound. And this mountain soul music is about to make its debut against the perfect backdrop: the roots-lovin’ mountains and fans of Colorado.
Want to catch them in Boulder?
They’re playing in Denver too!
While you await the live show, you can get familiar with the group by streaming their music on iTunes, Spotify, You Tube, or Google Play. We hope to see you there!
